Radio Show Web App Up and Running

Development time has gotten shorter and shorter since we switched to web apps. We having been trying to get an iOS app for vintage radio program jukebox since the first of the year. Look at it now after just two weeks in development:

We have a fully themed web site with 9 programs up with a total of 362 episodes. All free of charge and available for streaming and download. They stream great over 3G.

Episodes are advertising supported. Our marketing theme is 'Help us keep the lights on and click on the ads!'. We are modelingly this off the TV model of revenue generation. Offering content paid for by sponsors. We are currently using Google Ads to generate the banners.

Our goal is to have 100 shows up by Christmas. Future programs include: Calling All Cars, Duff's Tavern, Hall of Fantasy, Have Gun WIll Travel, The Shadow, and The Witch's Tale.

Our decision to develop this app first is based on the success of our radio simulator for iPhone. This is our second most downloaded app for iOS. It's free so check it out here: link to app

New Home Page

We needed a better hub for all of our online projects so we redesigned the home page. Our goal is to make it much easier to find your way to our cool stuff.
You can see the update here: goldendeliciousapps.com.
This blog that we re-designed last year will remain pretty much the same. We will announce all company news here as well as other tech musings.
Golden Delicious Apps develops in three categories: Distractions, Education, and Business. The new design will better separate each category it's own look and feel.
Check our web site often. New development has really picked up since we started concentrating on web apps.

A New Direction

We are going to change our direction here at Golden Delicious Apps. Since we opened our doors, the concentration has been iOS apps. We have dabbled in releasing Android and web apps but nothing really serious. Going forward, GDA is going to develop web apps exclusively. While we will continue to upgrade and distribute our current thirteen iOS apps, we will start no new projects designed to go on the Apple app store, unless, of course, you want to pay me to make one for you or your company, in which case let's talk!

The development process for an app going on the Apple app store is too labor intensive for our small software development apps. The review process can take longer than the development time. The process for submitting an app (uploading  to Apple) can take a full work day. All of this results in longer and longer development schedules.

There is also the consideration that HTML5 web apps could make app stores irrelevant, even apps you use when you don't have an internet connection. Web apps also allow GDA to distribute apps across all platforms and change code instantly.

We will be writing everything in jQuery,  jQuery mobile, and many add-on Javascript libraries, and then putting them on our server for distribution. We will have both free and pay apps.

Please let me know what you think as the web apps roll out.
